Marcy Kahan is an award-winning radio playwright, screenwriter and stage dramatist. She is half-Canadian and half-American. She was educated at Oxford University and trained in theatre in Paris with the Lecoq School teachers, Philippe Gaulier and Monika Pagneux. Marcy is based in London and is a naturalised British citizen. Her screenplay Antonia and Jane was the first BBC television film to be given theatric release byMiramax and won the Gold Plaque Award for Best Original Screenplay at the 1991 Chicago Film Festival.
Her stage work includes 20 Cigarettes (National Youth Theatre, Soho Theatre, London 2007), directed by Toby Frow, a stage version of Nora Ephron's When Harry Met Sally (Theatre Royal, Haymarket 2005), Goldberg Variations, (Miranda Theatre, New York, 1999) directed by Alison Summers, and Intimate Memoirs of an Irish Taxidermist (1986 Perrier Award for Best Comedy, Edinburgh Festival and Donmar Theatre, London).
Marcy is a prolific author of urbane comedies for BBC radio including Everybody Comes to Schickelgruber's which won a Sony Award in 1997, and The Uncertainty Principle, a comedy about genetic forecasting set in Manhattan in 2099 and commissioned by BBC World Service to mark the beginning of the new century. She's also written many radio adaptations including The Railway Children, The Wizard of Oz , Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and as co-writer with Mike Walker a ten-hour dramatization of Tolstoy's War and Peace.
