The Caretaker is a radio play by Harold Pinter, based on his stage play. Originally produced on radio in 1962 and again in 1969, the 2010 remake was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on 27 November 2010, as an installment of the Saturday Play[1].

Ashton rescues an old man from a fight in a cafe, and takes him home to his attic room. He offers the man a job as a caretaker.

Critical ReceptionEdit

" emotional kaleidoscope, constantly tilting between menace and incongruity. What is going on? The perpetual terrifying human dance, that’s what, vividly realised, utterly recognisable, conducted at the safe distance of a play. It lingers in the mind to haunt and warn because it has terrified you yet sometimes surprised you into sudden laughter. It was, in short, marvellous." - Gillian Reynolds, The Telegraph[3]
