The Moving and the Still is a radio play by Howard Barker. It was first broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on 17 October 2004[1].

Plot[]

A monastery in 1450. A young scribe, the finest calligrapher of his generation, greater even than John of Damascus or Ionides of the Feathered Style, is passionately committed to his art. Then a printing press arrives in his scriptorium from Germany.
