The Tragedie of Charles, Lord Stourton is a radio play by John Fletcher. It was first broadcast on BBC Radio on 25 May 1979, as an installment of Afternoon Theatre and part of the Hi-Fi Theatre series of plays. Repeated on 28 May 1979.
A recording is available at the British Library Sound Archive.
This new work for radio is written in the style of an Elizabethan revenge tragedy but unlike most plays in that genre the events described are set in this country. Stourton was a real 16th century land owner who came into conflict with his Protestant neighbours. Unable to obtain justice in the courts, Stourton was forced into an act of violence leading to his own death.
